Top wanted auto offender arrested – had warrant for assault police officer
Another one of British Columbia’s Top 10 Auto Crime Offenders has been arrested in West Vancouver, on April 3, 2014, for the second Top 10 arrest this week.
Douglas John HOLMES, 43 years old, had warrants issued by Vancouver and West Vancouver Police Departments for Assault Police Officer, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Stolen Property and Breach of Probation. He was arrested in the vicinity of a stolen 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, the keys of which are associated to a residential break and enter.
HOLMES was arrested by Coquitlam RCMP’s Prolific Offender team and the Integrated Municipal Auto Crime Team (IMPACT). The two teams had located HOLMES and followed him until it was safe to initiate an arrest. Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
HOLMES was wanted after being identified driving a stolen vehicle in June 2013. During the incident, West Vancouver Police made attempts to stop him; however, he allegedly quickly reversed the stolen vehicle and struck a police officer. HOLMES then fled the scene at a high rate of speed.
“We’re very pleased this individual will be brought before the courts,” says Cst. Jeff Palmer of the West Vancouver Police Department. “The allegations involve a serious disregard for the safety of the public and our officer.” Fortunately the West Vancouver police officer wasn’t seriously injured and has fully recovered from the incident.
Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks were the 5th ranked stolen vehicle in BC in 2013.
"The apprehension of another top 10 Auto Crime Offender within a week brings a prolific offender before the courts and in turn reinforces IMPACT's goal of keeping the citizens of British Columbia safe,” states Insp. Peter Jadis, head of the Integrated Municipal Auto Crime Team.
April is Auto Crime Enforcement Month in BC, and IMPACT, in partnership with the provincial government BC’s Top Ten Most Wanted Auto Crime Offenders. During the previous ten years, this initiative has proven to be highly effective, with 95 of the posted 100 wanted offenders arrested to date, thanks to the help of the media and public.
